Dr. Marcius Extavour
Dr. Marcius Extavour is a communicator and creative technologist who builds and deploys climate and energy solutions. He speaks globally on themes including the role of business and investing in solving for a changing climate, the energy transition, and nature restoration; the role of science technology and innovation in building a net-zero nature positive and socially just world; and exponential technologies including quantum systems.
As a Senior Partner at Ode, he combines data engineering and ML/AI, with remote sensing, creative design, deep subject matter expertise, and storytelling to build tangible products and companies. In the past, he established the TIME Climate 100 at TIME, after building an innovation practice centered on energy, climate, and carbon management at XPRIZE as Chief Scientist and Executive VP for nearly a decade. In 2019 he was named a 2019 VERGE Vanguard Fellow as one of 20 dreamers, pioneers, entrepreneurs, and others leading the clean economy.
Marcius’ work with government has included a policy and legislative role with the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy & Natural Resources where he served as AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow, and a scientific advisory role member of the National Academies of Science Engineering and Medicine’s Board on Energy and Environment Systems. He has held commercial and R&D roles at Ontario Power Generation, Nortel Networks, and University of Toronto, where he earned a PhD in quantum physics.
Marcius serves as an active Board Member at 1% for the Planet, MaRS, Carbon180, Carbon Removal Canada, and U. Michigan’s Global CO2 Initiative. His work has been featured on CNBC, CNN, PBS, and the Atlantic. Marcius is a native of Toronto, and lives in California with his family.
